Hello LA

Image

I beat feet out of SF this afternoon and am now in LA enjoying the simple pleasure of a/c on high with the fan on low. I, Daniel, will be here until Friday meeting up with folks new and old while a guest in el ciudad de Los Angeles.

If you’re here while I’m here and would like to meet up, then tweet or DM me @impactist or send an email and we’ll see what’s up.

Time to hit up a favorite for dinner. Shhh, it’s a secret!

Lucy the Chimp

The “Lucy the Chimp” story was playing on RadioLab the other day and reminded us about the t-shirts available on chopshop.

Pick one up here and help the show! UPDATED: No longer available.

Attack

Oh, man. Posterous had an outage due to an attack on its servers a few days ago that lasted quite a while. During that time, we had a few really thoughtful posts about creative ethics, inappropriate use of other artist’s work, why and when you shouldn’t pay entry fees to festivals, names of folks to avoid in this field including those that steal work and those that will leave you high and dry when it comes time for payment on deliverables, etc.

Really scandalous stuff. But, alas… It wasn’t meant to be since the outage really had us lose the passion for it when we realized it couldn’t be posted.

Maybe next time.

Pocket Auction

A Sean Scully work available at auction June 30, 2010

Here’s a surprising find. It’s auction house Christie’s mobile app. Who’d have thought an auction app could be so compelling? But, it is. If you’re even the tiniest bit of an art-nerd, the Christie’s app for iphone and ipod is a great time waster. It lets you check out upcoming auctions and browse the through the items. Surprisingly good stills with a moderate amount of zoom make this one of the more engaging apps for contemporary art viewing on the go. Plus, it’s free.

New York, New York

Tumblr_l1kgpxgns61qz73a4o1_500

Thanks to everyone we met up with during our quick trip to the city this last week. We are always so fortunate to meet up with such great people whenever we are there. And in some cases, funny how it takes a trip 2000 miles away to finally get together with those that might as well be our neighbors here at home.

To all the creatives, producers, animators, directors, and partners we spent time with, we extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for taking time out of your busy schedules to host us for food, drinks, and conversation. If any of you make it out West to our little piece of the world in the near future, don’t hesitate to let us know so we can return the favor and hospitality.

It’s the people that make up a city, and NYC is lucky to have you all as its representatives.

Best and see you soon.
