Test shots from our irregular8mm in-camera mechanical emulation of nikon and quarz 8mm film cameras. Not a software setup, but a physical and mechanical endeavor towards capturing a particular aesthetic using Fuji digital cameras and profiles to get footage straight out of camera, echoing light leaks, bad sprockets, jammed cartridges, and non-pin registered gates. A random sampling of one of many camera tests. Don’t know if anybody cares about this BTS stuff, but nearly every project we win or lose has us coming up with new ways of making sights and sounds. Maybe we’ll post more 🤷♀️ 🤷♂️ Or maybe it’s boring and niche.

You’re the Worst – Season 5
The fifth and final season of You’re the Worst on FXX follows the two narcissistic self-destructive leads, Jimmy and Gretchen, approach towards their impending marriage.
For the episodic package and promos, we spent a couple days shooting thousands of sequential stills on location in Los Angeles throughout the YTW universe. In a broken editorial style we combined the loose photographic compositions of Silver Lake, cast imagery, anonymous wedding moments and letter boards common to the entrance of countless conference rooms, banquet halls, and other rental spaces when converted to wedding reception locations. Additionally, an original typeface was created to match the photographed letter boards and included in the final client toolkit deliverables for later updating of program details.
The reliably blue skied and sun-kissed LA weather let us make time efficient use of our glimmer-glassed, pro-misted, vintage lensed, and color balanced Canon bodies paired with a custom LUT created pre-shoot to unify the color of the final package. We even found ourselves briefly camping inside Ye Rustic Inn to backup flash cards to the cloud, but without getting blacklisted like Gretchen.
Beyond neighborhood specific street photography, further photographic elements like pattern details and obvious, high concept LA scenes of highway traffic, towering palms, distant skylines, etc. were captured and intercut for context.
Invisible Snake Promos
It’s been said that an Invisible Snake is an infinite snake. All we know is that there can’t be infinite promos for said Snake, so we have four.
These promos span the analog and the digital, and the ephemeral and physical for our latest music EP Invisible Snake. Available for download or streaming on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify and Apple Music.
Track 1: “Snakesnakesnake”
Origin stories start somewhere and are explained some way. Legend holds if you know about Invisible Snake you are a member of Invisible Snake. Welcome. Forty-four seconds to tell you how we got here.
Track 2: “Oh Sparky”
Loyalty to the Invisible Snake means everything and brand loyalty means nothing when visualizing how the Receiver receives and the Inceiver inceives. Minolta, Olympus, Canon, and Pentax bodies and lenses exposed light onto Kodak stock. Then, hand dipped into Rodinol and HC-110. Impactist’s favorite happy hour cocktail.
Track 3: “Invisible Snake”
What’s a movement without fundamental texts? Gotta learn those Snake ethics. Keep on top of the current tech and maybe upgrade your home Inceiver to better pair with last year’s Receiver. Upgain your throughput and enroll now for eternity later.
Track 4: “Trophyatrophy”
The Snake works in mysterious ways. Can’t always be digital flickers tweaked to the beat. This last promo is a real physical object. Film photography printed on newsprint. 289mm x 380mm / 24 pages

70mm Cruel Drool Dual Jewel Analog – Yule Log 2.015
What’s up yule foolz? Only complete toolz deny the annual logz of yoolz. This year we kicked the format up about as far as it can go short of IMAX and opted for vertically composed 70mm film for 2015’s nod to the log. It’s got drool. It’s got dual jewelz. It’s got action that’s on the mild side of cruel. And, despite its delivery being digital, this egg-nog paired log has originated from the analog.
Keep the shiny side up and your negatives uncut, and let the log’n rock your noggin.
